Inside Our Firing Process

Before a piece ever sees flame, it dries slowly on a rack. Rush that, and the water still locked in the walls will turn to steam and open a crack. We wait longer than feels efficient.

The first fire, the bisque, is a quiet one. It hardens the form so it can be handled, glazed, and trusted. The second fire is the one that changes the clay for good. We bring the kiln up slowly, hold it, and let it cool without being opened early. Opening a hot kiln is how pots are lost.

What you see as a blush, a speckle, or a darker foot is the record of that heat. We do not use it to make every object identical. We use it to finish what the hand started.
